Proud And Perfect – Photographing An Event Of Real Truth

An amazing group of individual’s who participated in the show/gala.
Last month I attended and photographed a gala in support of About Face International, a support group that provides life-changing experiences for people with facial differences. Many of these individuals were born with a difference. The situations they endure, going through life with facial differences, exemplifies the true strength and beauty they have.
The ‘Light Up The Night’ gala, was a huge success. These images were taken for the organization to use in their newsletters and website. Above is one of the group shots I took after the fashion show.
As an an individual with an acquired facial difference from 18 yrs old, it has been very rewarding to volunteer for this group for many years. Their Executor Director, Anna Pileggi, is one of a kind.

In an industry where I photograph the ‘ideal beauty’, where ‘looks’ means so much, it is important that I share with others what true beauty really is.
We all make the best of what we are handed in life, no matter how traumatic or difficult it can be at times. These teens/adults represented what they stand for in this fashion show. We sometimes can’t control what life gives us, but we can choose how we live with it. If we are having difficulty making positive choices, there are groups like About Face that bring individuals together who can support and uplift each other.

One gorgeous model, Ashlyn.

Guests having a blast!
The car accident that I had as a teenager, resulted in many years of reconstructive facial surgery. I could relate to the struggles and strength these models have had to endure over the years. These life experiences have impacted why I wanted to be a photographer. I love the feeling of taking portraits of individuals and showing them a side of themselves that they haven’t seen.
Everyone is unique and has both physical and internal strengths that deserve to be highlighted. If my photography can bring a heightened level of confidence to those I photograph, then that is a successful session in my eyes. If my portraits can lead people closer to reaching their goals and an increased self-assurance, then that is very rewarding for me as a photographer and woman.

Photography goes much deeper than just taking pretty pictures. Photography can be personal and impacting, bringing a thrill to both the photographer and the subject matter. Let these photographs remind you to be proud and confident about what you have been given and what you represent in life. These individuals certainly do!

To see some posters that I photographed for an About Face ad campaign years ago, visit my advertising page. One of my goals in 2017 is to work for more inspiring organizations that truly make a difference in the lives of children and teens. Photography can bring awareness to others around the world that can not otherwise learn about the crucial causes out there.
Thank you for listening.
I would love to know the charity or organization that has personal meaning to you. Please share below a cause that is important to you, and why the group is important to you. I look forward to reading. – Anita

OMG! what a wonder blog! love it! thank you!! You are a very special person too! We are all one of kind in my eyes!! 🙂
Thank you so much Anna!
This is beautiful and worthy work. You captured the strength and beauty of all of these models! As for me – at the moment, serving and supporting women and children that are escaping violence and abuse is something that is very important to me. Our family does this by directly supporting shelters with goods and funds. Additionally we support Children’s Aid organizations to help those struggling for a number of different reasons.
That is amazing Christine! What you are doing makes a big difference, and what a wonderful example to your young kids too.
Great article and a great cause. My charity of choice is PSP.org. PSP stands for progressive supranuclear palsy. It’s a rare degenerative disease that needs more attention and research. My mom just passed away from this horrible disease and a close friends dad has it as well.
It is horrible to see a close family member pass from a disease like that. Thank you for sharing this info.
What an incredible article and beautiful images from such an inspiring event! I love that you shared such a personal story. For me, helping to eliminate hunger in our communities is a cause I contribute to throughout the year.
Fazeena, I think that what you wrote is a great reminder that poverty and hunger occurs in our own backyards, not just in far off countries. These groups too continuously need our assistance. Thanks for sharing!
So beautiful! Thanks so very much for sharing this very special evening.
Wow!
